If the design only includes an SVG file, you may still be able to avoid an upgrade by using an SVG to DXF converter. The free Silhouette Studio Basic Edition lets you import DXF vector files, so if your embroidery design includes a DXF cutting file, you’re golden.

Upgrades are a one-time fee, and I felt it was worth the Business Edition upgrade, but I still don’t love the added expense.
